Tips & Techniques Episode 1!
I have an urge to share ideas, and everything I know about designing from many years of being a florist.
It’s so hard to know where to begin with these videos…
I think it is my job to share quick and simple ideas for retail florists on how to use new products, to creative mechanics and techniques for advanced designers. It is nothing short of a huge, vast spectrum of education which can be addressed here… The quick tips touches more florists to make their daily business a little more creative and fulfilling – it is important for me that I can help them. It is also important for me to inspire ideas for those who want to excel at the highest level of floral art – to be able to help them realize their potential by sharing possibilities, sharing visions in the art.
I HAVE AN URGE TO SHARE WHAT YOU CAN DO TO BE A BETTER FLORIST!!!
Today I’m launching the first episode of Tips & Techniques with Hitomi: USING OASIS FLORAL MESH!
My very first video shares an idea that is perfect for spring design – it is very timely.
Spring is just the beginning of the growing season… a spring design is not about abundance, it is a little spare and transparent – the trees have not fully leafed out yet, new shoots are just emerging.
Smithers-Oasis Floral Mesh is used to create a cylindrical trellis/cage to fit tight into a 4” glass cube. All the flowers either drops freely into the trellis or grow along it, attached with bindwire. Trellis design makes the arrangement more dynamic – it appears as if the flowers are still growing!! This mechanic encourages airiness and understuffing, yet creates a sizeable arrangement. It promotes the principle of ECONOMY OF MEANS. Transparent design is a new emerging design concept – it appeals to our eyes which have become accustomed to be more critical of over-consumption. Allowing space to breathe, creating airiness, bring new appreciation and meaning to each special flower used.
